History

The fight for independence started in 1994 with what is known today as the Huk Rebellion led by communists. It then crossed over to the war against the Japanese on October 20, 1994. This caused a huge work stoppage and no one could work including Rosemary’s family. They could not sell pigs nor get money to feed the family. War against Japan ended with a victory with some help from America one of the Filipinos allies on July 4, 1946 a day of relief and celebration. The ending of the war was extremely beneficial to the Filipinos success.

Some of the peace treaties they have today are with America and a major Muslim group called the Moro National Liberation Front.

The streets of the Philippines are screeching on July 4 because of independence! Now that Rosemary’s country is independent they can have their own rules and freedom of speech. Rosemary can sell her pigs again. Now she can work and feed her family. Schools and businesses are up and running again and children are getting the education they need to be successful in life ahead. Kids can go out and play again and work under mother.

A Philippine chinese veteran shown here recounts the war against Japan in the Philippines.
